It is with great pleasure that Art Music Denmark announces that composer Signe Lykke has been selected for a three-month residency at Cité internationale des Arts in Paris in 2026.
The residency at Cité internationale des Arts offers a unique opportunity for Danish composers and musicians to immerse themselves in their work, gather inspiration, and exchange ideas with international colleagues. It aligns with Art Music Denmark’s mission to create supportive frameworks for artistic development and deep creative engagement. Signe Lykke has been selected by the French committee appointed by the Institut français.
About the opportunity, Signe Lykke says:
“I am both grateful and extremely excited for this opportunity, and I thank the committee at Cité internationale des Arts in Paris for this distinguished recognition. During the residency, I will explore the voice as an artistic material and living archive – at the intersection of memory, movement, body, and song. Through workshops and conversations with, among others, the French collective Lovemusic and soprano and conductor Barbara Hannigan, I will develop new works that investigate the untrained and ageing voice as a carrier of memory, intimacy, and collective experience. I look forward to deepening my work on these concrete pieces as well as engaging with French cultural life and the new artistic relationships that this residency enables.”
About Signe Lykke
Signe Lykke is an award-winning Danish composer, educated at Trinity Conservatoire of Music in London and the College of Fine Arts in Austin, Texas. Her music is often described as a poetic and porous fusion of sound that examines and challenges our perception of time. She cites a wide range of influences, from Stravinsky, Chin, and Sørensen to Prince, Robyn, and Byrne.
Signe Lykke has composed music for a wide array of ensembles and soloists, including large-scale interdisciplinary works such as the opera Nordkraft, the dance performance Leaning Tree, the interactive light installation Living Room by Random International, and an opera trilogy with the artist collective Motherboard. Future projects include a new violin concerto for the Danish Radio Symphony Orchestra, a new work for soprano Barbara Hannigan, a site-specific orchestral piece for the Rued Langgaard Festival in collaboration with Sønderjyllands Symfoniorkester, Esbjerg Ensemble, and Ars Nova, a song cycle for the aging voice and baroque orchestra, as well as a newly commissioned work for the award-winning Novo Quartet in collaboration with Bloom Festival.
