Marcela Lucatelli and Rosanna Lorenzen selected for network program in Canada

Back in December, Art Music Denmark shared an open call allowing 2 Danish musicians, composers or sound artists to strengthen their visibility and create professional connections in the Canadian music scene. The program is being developed and tailored in collaboration with Canadian, interdisciplinary artist Olivia Shortt.

The jury, consisting of Art Music Denmark’s music committee and Olivia Shortt, has selected composer, cellist and lighting artist Rosanna Lorenzen and composer, vocalist and performance artist Marcela Lucatelli for the program, which will take place at the end of September 2026.

Olivia Shortt says about the project:

“I’m really excited to facilitate and share a snapshot of some of the Canadian arts organisations, artists and ways of working that inspire me. Cultural exchanges are crucial for the growth of any artist looking to broaden their perspectives and understanding of themselves, their cultures in relation to others and their art-making practice in a more global context. This is an exciting opportunity for me to show how the Canadian arts and culture scene is distinctive in its positioning as a young country existing in relation to, and in conversation with, colonisation and the many Indigenous perspectives that have existed long before what-we-currently-know-as-Canada. This will be a very exciting and generative week-long adventure and opportunity that I’m proud to be a part of.” – Olivia Shortt

“I am very much looking forward to meeting artists and music communities in Canada and to the conversations, exchanges and new perspectives that the network program can create. For me, international meetings are an important part of artistic practice – not only as an opportunity to present my work, but also to listen and create dialogue across backgrounds and interests, and to develop new collaborations. It is particularly meaningful that the stay coincides with the premiere of an excerpt of a work that I am creating with and for the Canadian vocalist and performer Sarah Albu during Chants Libre in Montreal.” – Marcela Lucatelli

About the artists

Rosanna Lorenzen

Rosanna Lorenzen works across genres, collaborating with both musicians and visual artists. Her practice combines cello, electronics, field recordings, prepared instruments, and visual elements into immersive and intimate listening experiences. She has performed in a wide range of settings – from Lydbrøndene in Frederiksberg, a dome in Berlin, on a bass-vibrating floor, playing sleep concerts and performing an audiovisual work in a Swedish oil tank with 25 seconds of reverberation, to venues and festivals, including Copenhagen Cathedral, SPOT festival, Copenhagen Jazz Festival, SPOR Festival and DR Koncertsal.

Marcela Lucatelli

Marcela Lucatelli is a composer, vocalist, director and multi-artist with roots in Brazil and a base in Denmark. She is internationally recognised for her radically original, sensual and politically charged works at the intersection of experimental music, performance art and contemporary music. With the voice as a focal point, she explores questions of power, representation, transformation and liberation. For Lucatelli, the stage is not just a place for artistic expression, but a space where art, humour, politics and life are negotiated in real time.
