Charter

Charter for Art Music Denmark

Value basis for inclusive and transparent practice

This charter concerns Art Music Denmark’s secretariat, the Music Committee and the board. With this charter, Art Music Denmark wants to support that our processes and activities are inclusive internally and externally towards the people they deal with, as well as for other relevant target groups. Art Music Denmark’s work must demand diversity, equality and inclusion among our target groups and secretariat. The charter was approved by Art Music Denmark’s board on 1.6.2026.

Values

Art Music Denmark’s purpose is to strengthen the music scene in Denmark and Danish music abroad. We work to promote and maintain a culture characterised by equality across gender, ethnicity, age, sexuality, religion, skin color, functional variations and disabilities, and to reduce discrimination and abuse in our environment, which we are made aware of. We believe that the strength and diversity of art comes from our ability to embrace and celebrate differences. Our community must be a safe and inclusive space where everyone feels welcome and respected.

Transparency is a core value for us. We commit to being open and honest in our communication and decision-making processes, and we strive to create transparency in relevant processes and activities.

We work for the right of professional artists to a dignified working life and are committed to supporting artists in their efforts to practice their art in a sustainable way. Therefore, we take as our starting point current tariffs and collective agreements in Denmark and internationally, taking into account the current practices of the individual countries.

Evaluation and learning

Evaluation is incorporated as a practice in Art Music Denmark’s projects and larger processes. In connection with residencies and visiting programs, the evaluation will be based on the artists’ overall course, experience with partners and the objectives set for the given residency or visiting program.

Art Music Denmark always includes the evaluation in connection with any continuation and further development of the given initiatives to ensure the best possible offers.

Collaboration

Art Music Denmark is part of a diverse network of different collaboration partners, including both established institutions and actors as well as smaller organisations and artists. In the development of new initiatives and projects, we strive to collaborate with partners who live up to Art Music Denmark’s values.

Consulting

Access to consulting is transparent and open. All inquiries about consulting are answered. The choice of consulting form and scope is assessed by Art Music Denmark’s consultants, taking into account the nature of the inquiry.

We work on quality assurance and development of our consulting, including through selected joint consulting courses.

Visibility and transparency

We work to be a visible and accessible genre organisation for our environments throughout Denmark. Art Music Denmark strives to communicate in a visible, useful and accessible way. Our communication is aimed at a wide range of different target groups and demographics within our field.

Art Music Denmark strives for transparent communication about selection processes regarding applications for open calls, international transport support, etc. In processing these applications, one or more of Art Music Denmark’s music committees are always involved as representatives of the organisation in order to ensure a professional and academic assessment and to avoid disqualification and vested interests among the secretariat’s employees. The members of the music committee are appointed by Art Music Denmark’s board of directors according to agreed and publicly available terms of reference.

Prevention and handling of cross-border behaviour

Art Music Denmark does not tolerate cross-border behaviour, including harassment, sexual harassment, discrimination, bullying or other offensive behaviour. The organisation works actively to ensure a safe, respectful and inclusive working environment for all employees, partners and participants in the organisation’s activities and projects.

Procedures for handling cross-border behaviour can be found in Art Music Denmark’s annual report and below. The procedure describes how inquiries are handled and what options are available for seeking support and advice.
