Art Music Denmark and Cashmere Radio offer an artistic residency at their Berlin-based studio for one artist working with sound art, contemporary music or classical music in Denmark as a musician or composer.
The residency takes place on October 10-17 at Cashmere Radio’s Studio in Wedding, Berlin as well as at a private place of residence within walking distance from the studio. During the residency, you’ll get the opportunity to develop and get broadcasted a radio program through the internationally acclaimed community radio as well as participate in a curated network program.
About the residency
The residency involves daily access to Cashmere Radio’s studio facilities, where one will be able to work with one’s own artistic radio broadcast, and a curated network program.
Your suggestion for a radio program is that it must highlight the contemporary art music scene in Denmark one way or another. It can, for instance, either be through a program about your own or other artists’ work, musical tendencies or scenes you find interesting, etc. Likewise, the format is completely open, but can involve interviews, field recordings, a reportage or live recording. It can also be more experimental and break with formal formats for radio.
During your residency, you’ll also be invited to up to three different network meetings with other relevant institutions, organisations or actors from the experimental music scene in Berlin. The network program will be curated by Cashmere Radio in accordance with the selected artist’s professional interests.
Requirements and practicalities
The residency is available for one person. You can either represent yourself as a solo artist or as part of a group, such as an artistic collective or ensemble.
It’s required that your suggestion for a radio broadcast relates, one way or another, to the Danish art music scenes.
Prior to the residency, Cashmere Radio and Art Music Denmark will offer online feedback on your radio suggestion. Note that your suggestion is tentative; adjustments to the concept can be made in dialogue with Cashmere Radio before, during or after your stay.
Prior to and during your stay, you’ll be connected with a contact person from Cashmere Radio’s board, who’ll coordinate the network program and your studio visits as well as answer any practical questions that you may have during your stay. During your stay there, you’ll get professional assistance to develop your own radio broadcast.
You’ll have daily access to Cashmere Radio’s studio facilities. However, there might be other events or productions taking place on some of the days. Thus, there may eventually be dates where you won’t have full access for the entire day.
The production of the radio broadcast doesn’t need to be finished during your residency, but must be recorded in full within that period. Cashmere Radio will assist with the production during and, if needed, after your stay.
Art Music Denmark covers travel expenses, accommodation at a hotel in walking distance to Cashmere Radio and per diem (fixed budget).
Neither Cashmere Radio nor Art Music Denmark offers insurance in case of any accidents during your residency.
Selection and application
All applications will be considered by a panel consisting of representatives from Cashmere Radio’s board and Art Music Denmark’s Music Committee. Applicants will receive an answer in June, after all applications have been reviewed.
Deadline: May 15
