In 2023, there were approximately 72 Danish chamber music associations evenly distributed throughout the country from Bornholm to Hjørring. The associations constitute an important labor market for Danish and foreign musicians and ensembles.
In 2024, 44 of these music associations were members of the Association of Danish Music Associations (SDM), which is the umbrella organization for the classical chamber music associations in Denmark.
The association’s website provides contacts for the member organisations. There is also a smart shortcut key where interested musicians can write directly to all the music associations at the same time.
In 2024, Art Music Denmark published the report “Kammermusikforeninger i Danmark” (Chamber Music Associations in Denmark), a report by consultant Maria Frej that maps the extensive and diverse landscape of music associations in Denmark.
The report presents the differences and similarities that characterise the environments compared to 20 years ago, when The Danish State Music Council’s Board of Representatives prepared a report on the Danish music associations and their conditions. The report also contains a number of recommendations for both the music associations and Art Music Denmark as an organisation for the entire classical music scene.
