In November last year we announced an open call for a residency in The Sound Laboratory in Musikhuset København. After having assessed the many enormously exciting applications we received, the committee selected the artist and composer etc. Jacob Remin and the electronic duo Atikka for the residency. Remin will begin in the first period of the residency this week. Each residency lasts for a month.

About Jacob Remin

Jacob Remin’s work takes technology and social construction, political power and activistic tools as its starting point. Through his work, Remin actively seeks to break down hierarchies between art and science and examines other times, cultures and understandings in this regard. Remin’s work can be defined as network-creating and am  involved in different groups who engage with art and technology, such as Offspace.dk, Centre for Cyber Wellness, Science Friction and 8bit klubben.

“I’m looking forward to spending time and presence with this fantastic collection of machines. I regard them all as portals to another time and potentially as openings to radically different universes of sound. It’s very exciting what will come out of my residence”, says Jacob Remin.

About Atikka

Copenhagen-based Susanne & John Cleworth make up the dynamic duo Atikka. The duo combines distinct musical approaches and draws upon both experimental electronic music, club music and avantgarde. Since the beginning of the project in 2022, they’ve played in places such as Japan, Australia and Sweden.

“Since we primarily work digitally, we see this residency as a gateway to hands-on exploration of music production. With access to Lydlaboratoriet’s stunning collection of Gunnar Møller Pedersen’s equipment and instruments, we aim to deepen our understanding of sound physics and expand our compositional techniques by departing from conventional methods.

It’s a big honour for us to be a part of this wonderful project hosted by Art Music Denmark and Strøm”, says the duo.

About The Sound Laboratory

The Sound Laboratory is a collaboration between Art Music Denmark and Strøm. With the project, Strøm and Art Music Denmark wish to both preserve and at the same time activate the cultural heritage which is related to the electronic equipment that’s been used decades ago. The Sound Laboratory is part of the project Lydskatten (The Sound Treasure), which is a collaboration between Art Music Denmark, Strøm and The Danish Composer’s Society. The project is supported by The Augustinus Foundation and Koda Culture. Read more about the project here.

In 2023, the two musicians Anton Friisgaard and Liv Andrea Hildursdóttir participated in residencies in The Sound Laboratory, where they both gave a presentation of their work at a public event as a culmination of their residencies.
