Art Music Denmark seeks a data collector for a new research project starting on March 3 or as soon as possible. The position is a fixed-term project employment.
About the project
Over the past year, Art Music Denmark has been working to improve the conversation about the value and conditions of music criticism in the Danish media landscape. Overall, music occupies less and less space in traditional Danish media. This creates new challenges and obstacles for our field when it comes to communicating their music and projects to the outside world – and it makes it harder for a new audience to discover the music.
We want to acquire more data-based knowledge about the development of music journalism in Danish newspapers over a 10-year period. Our own preliminary research points to a drastic decline, but with assistance from a data collector, we want to qualify our numbers and explore them in relation to a range of journalistic and thematic distinctions. The aim is to gain more specific knowledge that can influence our future work on the topic. That is why we are looking for you to help us with this!
About the position
This is a fixed-term project employment. Your job will be to collect online data on music content in Danish newspapers over the past 10 years. This can be done through online databases, etc., and our project managers will train you in the methods, which are relatively simple. However, we are also open to other methods if you have suggestions on how to optimize the process.
You will not be responsible for the analysis or further communication of the collected data, but we want to maintain an ongoing dialogue with you about this during your employment period.
We are looking for someone who…
– has a structured and focused approach to work – even with repetitive tasks
– Is good at systematic and methodical thinking
– Has basic Excel skills
– Has some knowledge of the Danish music landscape – possibly within our genre areas
Previous experience with larger or smaller data collection tasks is a plus, but not an absolute requirement if you are otherwise good at thinking and working systematically.
Fee and employment conditions
The project position is expected to be filled on March 3 or as soon as possible. The expected working time is approx. 175 hours for the entire project and must be completed within 2 months. Therefore, it is a flexible project position, where you can mostly plan your own hours. However, you must be available for short internal meetings at least once a week. The fee is 35,000 DKK, paid as a B-fee and includes holiday pay and supplements.
You will have access to a desk space at Art Music Denmark’s offices, located at Admiral Gjeddes Gaard in central Copenhagen, but depending on the tools used, data collection may also need to be carried out entirely or partially at a public library.
You will have ongoing dialogue with Alexander Julin Mortensen, project manager and communications officer at Art Music Denmark, and Morten Ogstrup Nielsen, project manager for documentation and data collection at the genre organizations, about the ongoing work and any issues.
Application
Send a short application to job@artmusicdenmark.org of max. 1 A4 page, where you describe your motivation, background and skills as well as your CV.
Application deadline: February 9 at 11:59 PM
Replies to your application will be given in week 7. Employment interviews will take place in week 8.
