Sonic Fiction in the Arts and Activism: Holger Schulze in discussion with Ayesha Hameed at HKW – performance by Marcella Lucatelli

Berlin, Thursday March 3: Haus der Kulturen der Welt: How to Do Things with Sound: Reading, panel, concert

Haus der Kulturen der Welt presents an evening with professor in musicology at the University of Copenhagen, Holger Schulze (author of Sonic Fiction, Bloomsbury 2020) In conversation with artist and scholar Ayesha Hameed, themes of activism in sonic fictions are discussed with a special focus on her artistic practice and Kodwo Eshun’s thought figures. Curator and scholar Giada Dalla Bontà brings to the table the sonic fictions within underground sound art of the late Soviet Union. Marcela Lucatelli, composer and performer, presents sonic fictions as part of a new performance and composition.

The evening is devoted to the delicate relations between sounds and performances, imaginations and the political actions within them:

“Tracks become Sonic Fictions, sonar systems, through which audioships travels at the speed of thought.” (Kodwo Eshun 1998)

A podcast from the Haus der Kulturen der Welt Berlin grants an insight into the topics.
