Study Trip to Bremen: The Stadtteil-Oper as a Driving Force for Urban Development and Social Change
Are you a music curator, head of a music institution, cultural consultant – or do you work professionally with music in social contexts? Then this study trip is designed for you.
Art Music Denmark invites you on an inspiring study trip to Bremen, where participants will experience Die Deutsche Kammerphilharmonie Bremen’s exceptional Stadtteil-Oper – an internationally acclaimed example of how music and the arts can act as catalysts for social change and urban renewal.
In the heart of the Osterholz-Tenever district – an area once marked by major social challenges – an opera tent each year transforms a green hill into Bremen’s own “Green Hill.” Here, professional artists perform alongside schoolchildren and local volunteers, supported by world-class musicians. More than 600 dedicated people from vastly different backgrounds unite in the production – from orchestra, choir, set design, and costumes to food and logistics.
This year’s production is titled “Wo Träume Städte bauen” – Where Dreams Build Cities – highlighting how visions and community can shape the cities of tomorrow. You can already follow the preparations and get a unique behind-the-scenes insight on Instagram.
Programme:
The study trip includes a meeting with the orchestra’s director, Albert Schmitt, a guided tour of Tenever, and attendance at the premiere of Wo Träume Städte bauen. You will meet local teachers, partners, and passionate community members – and gain insight into how the project creates lasting change.
