Are you a sound artist based in Denmark, then you can now apply for a residency of up to two weeks at Notam.

Do you want to work in Notam’s studios in Oslo?

Art Music Denmark is pleased to offer a residency at Notam’s studios in Oslo for a Danish composer or artist.

Notam is the Norwegian centre for technology in music and the arts. It is one of the most central studio and knowledge centres for music and technology in the Nordic region. Since its establishment in 1992, it has been a unique and invaluable institution for the development and experimentation with new technological solutions by composers and artists working with audio technology as part of their practice.

Art Music Denmark offers a working residency at Notam of 10–14 days in January 2027.

During the stay, you will have the opportunity to work on your own project in Notam’s facilities, which in addition to recording studios include multichannel studios, with the possibility of working in multichannel sound formats such as 5.1 and ambisonics. Read more about the possibilities at Notam HERE.

Requirements and practical conditions
The residency is available for one composer or artist. It is a requirement that you either come from or are based in Denmark (regardless of nationality).

Notam offers technical introduction to the studios as well as artistic guidance if needed. It is desired that a presentation is made in connection with the residency, but there is no requirement for this. The framework for any presentation will be agreed with Notam.

Art Music Denmark covers travel costs, accommodation in a hotel in Oslo, and per diem (fixed amount).

If unforeseen challenges arise during the residency, you can always contact Art Music Denmark’s project manager, Alexander Julin.

NOTE: If you are selected for the residency, it is a requirement that you arrange your own travel insurance. Art Music Denmark does not cover this cost.

Selection and application
All applications will be assessed by an evaluation committee consisting of representatives from Art Music Denmark’s music committee.

The application must include a motivation (max 1 A4 page), a short biography of you and your artistic work, and links to documentation of examples of your work. You are also asked to state which studio facilities you wish to work in, and whether you expect to need technical assistance at Notam beyond the introduction to the studio facilities.

It is not a requirement that you are a technical expert, but it is expected that you will be able to work independently after any introduction to the available facilities.

Applications will be assessed on the basis of an overall evaluation of your application, taking into account the relevance of the stated purpose of the residency and the framework offered at Notam.

Applicants will receive a response by late June, after all applications have been reviewed.

Deadline: 7 June at 23:59

Submit your application via the form: APPLICATION FORM

The residency is supported by the Augustinus Foundation and the Danish Arts Foundation.
