The funding will cover tuition and housing. Application deadline: January 10 2024 at 11 pm (CET)

About the festival

The Bang on a Can Summer Music Festival is a three-week residency and musical utopia for innovative composers and performers. It takes place at MASS MoCA located in the beautiful Berkshire mountains in western Massachusetts.

Through seminars, workshops, concerts and performances accompanied by some of the most talented artists, composers and musicians – including Gregg August, double bass; Maya Stone, bassoon; David Cossin, percussion; Lauren Radnofsky, cello; Michael Gordon, composer; David Lang, composer; Brad Lubman, conductor; Nick Photinos, cello; Vicky Chow, piano; Todd Reynolds, violin; Ken Thomson, clarinets; Julia Wolfe, composer, and many more – the festival is dedicated entirely to adventurous contemporary music.

In the course of Bang on a Can’s Summer Festival, the Danish participant will take part in a number of different activities:

  • Masterclasses and tuition. A number of the international music’s most talented composers and performers will teach the course, and participants in the course can receive tuition from several different tutors during the festival.
  • Daily physical activities
  • Collaboration with ensembles
  • Opportunity to experience the festival’s concert program daily
  • Social activities and special guest lectures, including“business of music” seminars and other guest sessions from prominent players and composers.
  • Rehearsal facilities include electronic tools for composers, just as performers and composers are encouraged to collaborate with other participants in the course and the participating ensembles.

The program culminates in a 3-day blowout festival called LOUD Weekend.
