Do you dream of immersing yourself in your artistic work in the heart of Paris? Art Music Denmark is seeking professional musicians and composers whom we can nominate for the 2027 edition of the Institut français x Cité internationale des arts residency programme.

The residency lasts three months and takes place during a period between April 2027 and April 2028. You will have the opportunity to live and work at Cité internationale des arts in the Marais, in the heart of Paris, develop your artistic project and exchange experiences with artists from around the world.

Who can apply?

  • Professional musicians and composers working within classical music and new composition music.

  • Applicants must have an artistic research or development project to be realised during the residency.

  • Applicants must be Danish citizens, regardless of whether they live in Denmark or abroad, or citizens of another country with permanent residence in Denmark.

  • At the time of application, applicants must have had permanent residence outside France for at least five years.

  • Applicants must be able to be fully present throughout the entire three-month residency and be free from professional commitments that are incompatible with the residency.

  • Applicants must be able to work professionally in English and/or French.

What does the residency include?

  • Three-month residency in an artist residence at Cité internationale des arts in the Marais.

  • A monthly residency grant of €1,100.

  • Travel support for the journey between Denmark and Paris of up to DKK 3,500.

  • The artist residences are designed for both work and living and include a workspace, kitchen, bathroom and sleeping area. Any additional services and expenses for accompanying persons must be covered by the resident.

Please note: If you are selected for the residency, you are required to obtain your own travel insurance. Art Music Denmark does not cover the cost of travel insurance.

How does the application process work?
It is not possible to apply directly to Institut français. You must first apply through Art Music Denmark’s application form. Art Music Denmark will then nominate candidates for the programme.

In the event of a high number of applications, Art Music Denmark’s Music Advisory Committee will make a prioritisation.

Nominated candidates will be assessed by a committee appointed by Institut français, consisting of representatives from French cultural institutions. The committee may reject projects without providing a reason.

The final decision is expected to be announced in January 2027.

How to apply
Submit your application via the application form and attach the following documents in English as PDFs:

  • CV (maximum 2 pages)
  • Artistic portfolio (links to audio/video recordings – maximum 12 pages)
  • Project description for the residency (maximum 2 pages)
  • Signed declaration stating that you are either the performer or the composer of the works included in the submitted links.
  • Letter of recommendation from an institution or professional (dated and signed in 2026, PDF).
