How does the Nordic music network STATUS work – and how can I make use of it?

Since 2021, the STATUS network has been working to improve knowledge sharing across the various Nordic countries and their respective scenes for contemporary and classical music. The network was initiated by Art Music Denmark and today also includes organizations from Iceland (Iceland Music), Finland (Music Finland), Sweden (Unga tankar om musik and Musikcentrum Syd), Norway (Music Norway), the Faroe Islands (Tutl), and Greenland (Kommuneqarfik Sermersooq).

Since then, the different organizations have collaborated across borders on networking events, workshops, and presentations throughout the Nordic region, published the report “STATUS – A Nordic Investigation of Art Music”, and – not least – engaged in ongoing dialogue and internal sparring about both challenges and exciting developments within the art music scenes in the respective countries. And today, the network is publishing the digital publication “STATUS – Signals From The Nordic Contemporary Music Scenes” sharing their insights from recent years!

About the Publication
In the publication, the network presents a number of developments and trends – so-called “signals” – that they have observed and discussed internally during the period 2023–2025. These signals highlight initiatives, projects, and developments within the art music scenes that have particularly caught the attention of the network’s members. They have formed the basis for discussions on knowledge sharing about the values or challenges these signals bring to the scenes – and how organizations can play an active role in relation to them.

What can I gain from the network?
The aim of STATUS is to improve knowledge sharing across the Nordic art music scenes – because there is so much we can learn from one another, with the unique experiences and perspectives that come from each national scene.

If you’re part of a Nordic music organization working within the field of art music, you’re always welcome to get in touch. Perhaps you have relevant topics you’d like feedback on? Or maybe you simply want to learn more about the Nordic insights the network has built up in recent years? Then don’t hesitate to contact us at: admin@nordicstatus.org.

You can read more about STATUS on the network’s website here and read the report here.
