In connection with SPOT FLUX 2026, SPOT Festival, the Danish Composers’ Society, and Art Music Denmark are launching an open call for new chamber music and sound art.

SPOT FLUX
SPOT FLUX is the art music contribution to SPOT Festival, which takes place in Aarhus every year at the beginning of May. Since 2024, SPOT FLUX has presented showcase concerts featuring Danish ensembles and composers, alongside industry and networking events.

For SPOT FLUX 2026, we will once again focus on connecting actors affiliated with the Danish art music scene with both the Danish and international music industry.

The aim of SPOT FLUX is to present innovative concerts and sound art to both a curious audience and industry professionals at SPOT. Therefore, as a participating artist in SPOT FLUX, you must be prepared to present your music or sound art not only to the festival audience but also to bookers, festival and ensemble directors, and others from Denmark and abroad who attend the festival to seek inspiration, develop networks, and establish new collaborations.

New for 2026, we are seeking participants in the categories New Chamber Music and Sound Art, and we aim to select this year’s participants through an open call. Read more about the application criteria for the two categories below:

New Chamber Music

Who can apply?

If you are a soloist, ensemble, or music group, you can apply for a 30–40-minute showcase concert at SPOT FLUX. Ensembles of all sizes are welcome to apply.

Selection criteria
Collaboration between composers and musicians is central to SPOT FLUX, and it is a requirement that the concert primarily presents new Danish music. In addition, the jury will consider the artistic quality of the project, its suitability in terms of international potential and touring opportunities, and, more generally, how the SPOT platform can be used to the greatest advantage.

Sound Art

Who can apply?
If you are a sound artist, you can apply with various sound art formats, such as an audio work for one or more loudspeakers, a media work (e.g., a music film), a performance, or similar.

The category is not limited in style or expression, and we will strive to match the most compelling works with the available SPOT settings.

Selection criteria
You may only apply with an existing work. Proposals for new works will not be considered. The work and/or the artists must have a connection to Denmark. The jury will also consider the project’s artistic quality, its suitability in terms of international potential and touring opportunities, and how it can fit into the overall SPOT program and the available production framework (see ‘Terms’ below).

In 2026, sound art will be presented as part of SPOT FLUX for the first time. Therefore, you must include an estimated budget in the application, specifying all expenses, including rights fees.

Participation in SPOT FLUX

If selected for SPOT FLUX 2026, you will have the opportunity to:

  • Present your work/program to a wide audience and an international professional environment
  • Take part in an industry program tailored to SPOT FLUX artists
  • Have a short presentation video made about your music
  • Be part of SPOT’s vibrant festival atmosphere

Application deadline: 3 November 2025

After the deadline, all applications will be reviewed by the SPOT FLUX 2026 jury, consisting of professional representatives from the Art Music Denmark Artistic Committee, the Danish Composers’ Society Production Support Committee, and SPOT Festival. All applicants will receive a response by December 1st 2025.

Terms
Ensembles and soloists selected for SPOT FLUX will receive a performance fee subsidy of DKK 2,636.89 per musician, in line with SPOT Festival’s standard concert fees.

As a rule, standard production facilities will be provided. If special setups or production needs are required (e.g., special instruments, lighting, etc.), this must be specified in the application.

Sound art works can be presented in various settings depending on the selected projects. For sound art, it is required that artists are able to install their work with minimal assistance and that setup and teardown can be carried out quickly.

Chamber music concerts will take place in Musikhuset Aarhus, with access to their production facilities and technical staff. Both categories will have the option of catering in the SPOT canteen in connection with the concert.

Any additional costs, such as transport, accommodation, work development, rehearsals before SPOT, and personal production expenses, will not be covered. It is possible to apply for national and international transport support through Art Music Denmark.

NOTE: The total concert budget for SPOT FLUX is limited. Applications with very large budgets and high funding requirements will therefore not be considered.
