Art Music Denmark and Cashmere Radio are happy to yet again offer an artistic residency at their Berlin-based studio for one artist working with sound art or contemporary music this year. The residency takes place on September 15-21 at Cashmere Radio’s Studio in Wedding, Berlin as well as at a private place of residence within walking distance from the studio.

During the residency, you’ll get the opportunity to learn more about Cashmere Radio’s artistic and community-based approach to radio broadcasting, get access to their studio facilities, present your own music through their radio channel, and meet with different institutions from Berlin within the field of sound art and experimental music.

About the residency

Cashmere Radio is more than merely a radio station. Rather, they’re working with radio as an art form, often presenting experimental formats. At the heart of their institution is a strong commitment to community building – thus, their station isn’t just a place to broadcast music, but a place to gather, share artistic visions and take part in their community. As part of the residency, Cashmere will give you a 1-day presentation on how they work with radio on both a practical, artistic and social level.

If you’re selected for the residency, you’ll also get the chance to present your work – either existing or work in progress – on their radio channel. Likewise, you’ll get daily access to their studio facilities in case you intend to work on a new project during your stay.

As part of their residency, Cashmere Radio will facilitate network meetings with members of the radio, as well as people and organisations from their network working with sound art and experimental music.

Requirements and practicalities
The residency is available for one artist, either from or based in Denmark (regardless of nationality).

Prior to and during your stay, you’ll be connected with a contact person from Cashmere Radio, who’ll coordinate the network program and your studio visits as well as answer any practical questions that you may have during your stay.

Cashmere Radio offers technical assistance to their studio, if you wish to use it during your stay.

Art Music Denmark covers travel expenses, accommodation at a hotel in walking distance to Cashmere Radio and per diem (fixed budget).

In case of any unexpected challenges during your stay, you can always contact Art Music Denmark’s project manager, Alexander Julin.

If you’re selected for the residency, it’s mandatory that you have travel insurance.

Selection and application

All applications will be considered by a panel consisting of representatives from Cashmere Radio’s board and Art Music Denmark’s Music Committee. Applicants will receive an answer in May, after all applications have been reviewed.
