Projects

Art Music Denmark both initiates and contributes to projects, which support the careers of musicians within our music genres.

We establish networks, offer international residencies and collect relevant data for musicians operating within contemporary music, classical music and sound art. Most of our projects are realised in collaboration with a number of other players within the art and music industry.

Current projects

Accelerator
A professional development course for music players. Accelerator was developed by TEMPI in collaboration with Art Music Denmark and has existed since 2021. Accelerator is aimed at a wide range of professional players across the music scene and offers an intense 1-year Accelerator course consisting of online webinars, physical seminars in connection with festivals and individual guidance. SPOT FLUX
SPOT FLUX is art music’s contribution to SPOT Festival and a collaboration between SPOT Festival, the Danish Composers’ Association and Art Music Denmark. The project was launched in 2024 with the ambition to give art music a new, visible and current platform at a festival that has been a meeting point for new trends in Danish music across genres for many years.

Crescendo
Art Music Denmark and Nordic Artists Management are launching a new 1-year mentoring program for young classical musicians in Denmark. The project is aimed at conductors, instrumentalists and singers at the beginning of their professional careers.

Network for Music Associations on Audience Development. Art Music Denmark has launched a new nationwide network project for chamber music associations, music festivals and churches with a focus on audience development.

TOURBUS
AI and data-driven mapping of live music networks and development of tools. TOURBUS is an international research project founded by researcher Brandon Farnsworth, working to develop methods to map live music networks and movement patterns. The goal is to create practical tools for artists and organizations working internationally, as well as a better statistical basis for understanding and describing live music.

Northern Connection
Northern Connection is a new and innovative project that connects Nordic countries and Scotland by establishing and strengthening liaisons between composers, ensembles and festivals in contemporary music.

Danish New Music Academy
Danish New Music Academy (DNMA) is a course that aims to create and promote new music through close collaboration between composers and musicians. The course, held in Aarhus, is designed to strengthen both the Danish and international environment within contemporary music. DNMA differs from the traditional teaching situation, as participants learn through joint creation of music rather than through formal teaching.

Sound art at the 2024 Olympics
In December 2023, we launched an Open Call with our partners for a sound artwork that would be included in a cultural program curated by VisitDenmark.

VÆKST
Since 2022, Musikhuset Copenhagen has held an annual residency called VÆKST, where selected ensembles have had the opportunity to create and present their music.

The project gives two Danish ensembles the opportunity to try their hand at the music scene in the eastern United States in 2025.

European Music Exchange is the Danish national music organisations' joint effort for international music exchange for all genres.

GENSTART
With the GENSTART project, musicians, ensembles and composers have had the opportunity to apply for funds to develop new concert formats with a focus on re-performances of already existing works. The vast majority of new music/sound art works experience only one or a few performances. ASK: Artists Share Knowledge

LYDSKATTEN
A pilot project about communicating music that must not be forgotten. Denmark is about to lose a unique treasure – a significant part of Danish cultural heritage. Lydens Landskab
LYDENS LANDSKAB seeks to develop a fixed, sound-based art work in a specific public space and is currently accepting idea submissions. The project emerged out of a close dialogue between Art Music Denmark, the design agency Urgent.Agency, Roskilde local council, and the Museum of Contemporary Art in Roskilde.

NEUSTART
Neustart is a broad-based initiative which promotes dialogue and collaboration between the Danish and German music sectors in the wake of easing COVID restrictions. The initiative will involve concert collaborations, residencies, co-writing, matchmaking, knowledge-sharing and more - with Berlin, Hamburg, Copenhagen and Aarhus as the focus areas.

Bang on Can
Art Music Denmark collaborates with the New Yorker composer collective Bang on a Can to be able to offer a Danish composer or musician a three-week residency at Bang on a Can's summer festival at the Museum of Modern Art in Massachusetts, USA. The aim is to support development and exchange between young Danish talents and international musicians and actors.

Bureau for Listening
Art Music Denmark is collaborating with Bureau for Listening in connection with the holding of the Listening Biennale in Denmark in 2025.

Cashmere Radio
Art Music Denmark is collaborating with the community radio Cashmere Radio on a residency in Berlin. Here you will have access to their studio facilities for the creation of a new sound work. You will also be part of a curated networking program with local actors and institutions.

Cité internationale des Arts
Art Music Denmark collaborates with the French Institute, Cite Internationale des Arts Paris on a 3-month residency for classical musicians in Paris. The aim is to support the international ambitions of the classical players and help to increase their skills.

Danish New Music Academy is a new initiative started in 2022. Art Music Denmark continuously collaborates with the initiators on further development of the academy.

Den marokkanske ambassade
Art Music Denmark has started a collaboration with the Moroccan embassy in Denmark. The purpose is to develop short- and long-term agreements on the exchange of artists and musicians between Morocco and Denmark.

Det Kgl. Danske Musikkonservatorium (Royal Danish Academy of Music)
Art Music Denmark collaborates continuously with the Royal Danish Academy of Music. We collaborate, among other things, on the exchange and analysis of data regarding students' path from study to professional musicianship.

Art Music Denmark collaborates with Elvermose Klassiske Koncerter on the creation of an international residency for classical musicians.

The purpose of the collaboration is to build new networks and create new opportunities for artists in Denmark and Northern Germany.

Fundacion Valparaiso
Art Music Denmark collaborates with Fundacion Valparaiso on a 2-week residency for professional classical musicians in Mojácar, Almería in southern Spain. Based on classical musicians' need for intense practice periods and international networks, the project offers classical musicians the opportunity for a stay with a focus on high professionalism and immersion.

Genreorganisationerne (The Danish National Music Organisations)
Genreorganisationerne (The Danish National Music Organisations) are Art Music Denmark, Jazz Denmark, Tempi and ROSA. The four organisations collaborate closely on data development, administration and international exchange. A more detailed description of the collaboration can be seen in the organisations' annual reports.

IAMIC
Art Music Denmark is a member of IAMIC (International Association of Music Centres) from 2024. Annual international meetings are held with the exchange of music knowledge internationally.

Ircam
A collaboration with the French music institution Ircam on the selection of a Danish musician/composer who will have the opportunity to participate in and present their practice during their workshop course Ircam Forum in March 2025.

Initiative Neue Musik
Art Music Denmark is collaborating with the German music institution Initiative Neue Musik (INM) on a visiting program for Danish artists, composers and curators during the Month of Contemporary Music. They are also collaborating on a workshop series on sustainability within art music.

International visitor program at KLANG-Festival
In collaboration with Edition-S and Wilhelm Hansen, a major visitor program will be held in Denmark in June 2023. The visitor program has a particular focus on international industry visitors from Germany and the rest of Europe.

ISCM (International Socitey for Contemporary Music)
Art Music Denmark is the Danish section of ISCM, which is the worldwide association and network for new music. In connection with the international festival ISCM World New Music Days, every year Art Music Denmark issues an Open Call for works by Danish composers to be performed at the festival.

Month of Contemporary Music - Berlin
Together with Initiativ Neue Musik Berlin, we organise a tailor-made visiting program for the festival Month of Contemporary Music Berlin in September. At the same time, Art Music Denmark and Initiativ Neue Musik collaborates on a number of other networking and exchange initiatives between Denmark and Berlin.

Repertoirestatestikken
Since 2018, Art Music Denmark has regularly published repertoire statistics on music played in Danish concert halls, opera houses and festivals. The reports are published in collaboration with the Danish Composers Association, Edition-S, Edition Wilhelm Hansen and Danish Music Publishers.

Derived from our report "Chamber Music Associations in Denmark", Art Music Denmark began a collaboration with the Association of Danish Music Associations in 2024 with the aim of strengthening their work within the areas of focus where there is the greatest need for support and upskilling.
