In relation to The Olympic Games in 2023, an open call is launched for a sound art piece in Paris.

In relation to OL in 2024, Art Music Denmark, Le Bicolore/The Danish Embassy in Paris and VisitDenmark launches an open call for sound art that will be shown in The Danish Pavilion, which is located by and in the church Frederikskirken in Paris from July 26 to August 11, 2024.

You can either apply with;

  • An audio work for 1 or more speakers
  • A mixed media piece, such as a music video

In relation to The Olympic Games in Paris in 2024, a 17-day long exhibition for Denmark is planned. The initiative will take place in the yard behind Danmarkshuset at Champs-Élysées and the Danish church Frederikskirken, which lies behind Danmarkshuset. Here, visitors and journalists from all over the world will be able to become inspired by Danish solutions and ideas which can increase the standard of living for citizens across the globe.

The sound art will be a part of a program where visitors will be able to come directly from the street and make acquaintance with Danish culture, values and competences. In relation to the initiative, Frederikskirken will be used as the Danish pavilion with a culture scene, where smaller concerts and talks will take place as well as presentations of what defines Danish art and culture.

In this regard, it’s now possible for Danish artists to apply for showcasing one work of sound art. The piece will be part of a 45-60 minutes long digital culture-program, which will be shown in the church repeatedly on a daily basis while the exhibition takes place.

If your work is selected, it’ll also be possible to organize a simultaneous exhibition of the sound art piece in The Danish Student House and at Le Bicolore/The Danish Embassy in Paris.

Your submission should live up to one or more of the following criteria;

  • The piece addresses the climate crisis with keywords such as global community, nature or a new beginning
  • The piece has a spontaneous character which can be experienced by a diverse audience from all over the world
  • The piece resonates with the narrative of Denmark as “The Land of Everyday Wonder”, which is the slogan that Denmark is marketed as abroad. What is meant by this is that it isn’t the spectacular monuments or wild natural phenomenon that Denmark has to offer, but it’s our lifestyle which is the attraction: The informal, playful and all the small things which makes our everyday something unique.
  • The piece has to be short – max. 10 minutes long. It’s possible to apply with a longer piece which the artist, if selected, can revise to fit this format.

Please note that only digital works are considered.

Requirements and practicalities

It’s required that the piece needs to be fully developed before sending an application, or that it’s close to being finished. The submitted piece may already have been publicly exhibited.

It’s possible to make smaller adjustments to the piece if it’s estimated to be beneficial for its location and expression in Frederikskirken. Eventual revisions will be made in dialogue with the panel which reviews the applications.

It’s possible to apply both as an individual or an artistic group. The winner receives 25.000 DKK fee. The fee includes eventual production & travel expenses as well as any work that the artist may undertake, such as in relation to revisions of their piece.

Selection and application

All applications will be reviewed by a panel consisting of representatives from Art Music Denmark, Le Bicolore/The Danish Embassy in Paris and VisitDenmark. Applicants will receive an answer in February 2024, when all applications have been reviewed.

Deadline for applications: January 21, 2024
