Tomorrow, this year’s Copenhagen Opera Festival begins. It lasts until 20th of August and takes place at many different venues across Copenhagen. For this year’s festival, Art Music Denmark has the great pleasure of collaborating with them on two projects.
Kompositionsmesterklasse 13th of August
On the 13th of August, the event “Kompositionsmesterklassen” will take place. Here, you can learn more about classical musicians’ creative process when Daniel Bjarnason gives insight to, inspires and teaches a new generation of skillful composers. You’ll get insight into how the same text in the hands of three different artists can get enormously different expressions when they each present their work for Bjarnason. Each piece is, as the point of departure, developed on a libretto that he allocated to them prior to the event.

The Undoing of Carmen 18th of August
Femicide often happens in Opera’s tragic love stories, also in Georges Bizet’s “Carmen” from 1875.
On the 18th of August, you can get behind the scenes and hear director Anna Sofie Keller Brandsborg, composer Kirstine Fogh Vindelev and Katrine Amalie Keller, knowledge-consultant and expert in violence in close relations and femicide, tell about how they dissected the classical French opera “Carmen” from the perspective of the most recent research in intimate partner homicide.
This insight will be followed by a panel discussion about the classical opera works perceived with a critical look. It will be moderated by Eline Wernberg Sigfusson – strategic consultant and facilitator of networks and curated conversations as well as former director of the think tank a/nordi/c and Nordic Culture Fund.
