By the end of 2022, Art Music Demark and The Danish Arts Foundation launched an open call for Danish composers and musicians, where one could apply for a three week long residency during the American composer-collective Bang on a Can’s “Summer Music Festival” in Massachusetts. The Danish composer, sound artist, teacher and musician Jacob Ridderberg was chosen for the residency.

Jacob Ridderberg (1992) is a Danish composer, sound artist, teacher and musician who works with numerous different forms of experimental music. During the last couple of years, Jacob’s primary focus has been on creating interdisciplinary and relational art that examines the influence of digital technology on our understanding of many different fields such as history, politics and body, memory, music culture, etc.

Jacob tells about his forthcoming residency to Ban on a Can’s Summer Music Festival:

“I’m especially looking forward to the opportunity for having a longer, intensive and collective work process together with international musicians and composers who probably also have many different ideas about and approaches to composing, music and art. I’ve an expectation and hope that it’s an enormously open environment with space for stylistic, audible and ideational diversity. Ideally, I hope that the residency will contribute to challenging my ideas about what music can be, start new artistic ideas and create long-lasting collaborations across geographical affiliations. My current writing process often takes place alone, so it’s going to be super exciting and challenging to open up the process for a more collaborative approach”.
